Cllr Oisín O'Connor

Green Party Councillor for Glencullen-Sandyford, including Ballinteer, Stepaside, Kilternan, Leopardstown, Ballyogan & Glenamuck

€290m has been announced today as funding from central government for local authorities across Ireland to invest in walking and cycling with almost €25m of this allocated for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown to invest in vital infrastructure such as footpaths, crossings, accessibility upgrades, safe routes to school and cycling facilities.

I strongly welcome this budget allocation for walking and cycling. My Green colleagues on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and I will be to the forefront of supporting our Active Travel team in making our county a more active travel-friendly place to live, study and work.

I’m particularly pleased that the following local projects have secured funding for design and/or construction stage:

A number of projects funded under the 2022 budget are still ongoing and will improve walking and cycling safety in our area. These include:

  • Blackglen Road improvement scheme: by summer 2023, footpaths and cycle tracks from Lamb’s Cross to Ticknock Road and from Lamb’s Cross to the Sandyford Road council depot (beside Kilcross) will be complete.
  • Path upgrades in parks and green spaces: coming soon to the greens in Woodpark and Orby/Glencairn.
  • Quick build cycle protection on Murphystown Way, Sandyford Road, Blackthorn Avenue and Blackthorn Drive.

If you have any questions or comments on any of these projects, please let me know.
