Great news: Ballyogan Library is opening in March 2025 to the public. I got a sneak peek of this fantastic new facility this week from the new Ballyogan Library branch manager and her team. They’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone into the new Ballyogan Library.

We’re still awaiting the exact date next week for the “soft opening”, as there is an issue to resolve with the lift. The Grand Opening will be on 26th March. Initially, Ballyogan Library will open 9am to 5pm but when it’s fully up and running the Library will be open late Monday to Thursday.
The library is an accessible building on two floors and is now open six days a week, Monday to Saturday. I have asked council management what needs to be done to open libraries on Sundays too and the answer is the same “more budget”. This is one reason why I don’t support cutting the Local Property Tax by the full 15%. For this euro a week tax cut for the average homeowner, we could have libraries open on Sundays and many other increased council services.
This is the first public library in the county with a sensory space, a dedicated teen area and a music studio.
Also see the new plans here for the Samuel Beckett Sports Campus in Ballyogan which will include a new 25m swimming pool. We approved the plans for this in May 2024 under the last council and we have been told that a construction contractor will start works mid-2026.
The Ballyogan Library is a fantastic local facility for everyone living in Ballyogan, The Gallops, Clay Farm, Carrickmines, Kilternan and all the surrounding areas.

The new library in Ballyogan has the latest facilities and is specifically designed to be a welcoming space that has something for everyone, no matter your age or ability. It includes:
- plenty of books
- culture space for performances seating 60-70
- computer stations including ones specially designed for parents trying to simultaneously entertain the little ones
- sensory space
- children’s play space
- podcast/musician studio
- dedicated teen space
- various seating options
- meeting room
- changing room and buggy storage area
- fully accessible including Changing Places bathroom
