Cllr Oisín O'Connor

Green Party Councillor for Glencullen-Sandyford, including Ballinteer, Stepaside, Kilternan, Leopardstown, Ballyogan & Glenamuck

Today is the start of the final public consultation on the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Development Plan 2022-2028 before councillors vote on the final version this September. It will run until the 16th of April. Overall, I think it’s a good plan with a strong focus on environmental outcomes and sustainable development in DLR.

The Draft Plan is underpinned by five strategic county outcomes and the overarching concept of the “ten minute” neighbourhood whereby communities are able to walk, cycle or use high quality public transport to get to the facilities they need for day to day living.

Nearly everything that the council do for the next 8 years will be because it’s in or not in this plan so be sure to have a look. I’ll be looking at areas such as more sustainable develpment, provision of climate resilient infrastructure, improving biodiversity and reducing car dependence.

There’s even a cool virtual display room where you can easily navigate between the different parts of the plan. Best to pick out a couple of topics or areas and see what the plans mean for you before considering a submission.

The plan will be physically on display in the Ferry Terminal in Dún Laoghaire town from February to April. If possible, I’d recommend viewing the materials online as it’s likely there will still be restrictions due the ongoing pandemic.
