UPDATE: The LDA have opened applications for the Dún Óir Cost Rental scheme now and the applications will be open from 9th May to 16th May. Click below to apply.

Rents will be set at €1,300 for a one-bed apartment and €1,450 for a two-bed. These are at least 25% lower than market rate. Crucially as your landlord is the State, you have long-term security. As A-rated homes your heating/electricity bills will be near zero.

The apartments are right next to where construction will soon start on the Glenamuck Distributor Link Road which will connect the development to the Green Luas line just a short walk/cycle away.

What is Cost Rental?

Cost rental is a relatively new form of housing in Ireland. It involves renting at a discounted rate with long-term security of tenure. The cost to rent the home covers the construction costs and must be at least 25% cheaper than current market rents for the area.

This has been a Green Party policy that we negotiated into the programme for coalition government. It is modelled on successful affordable rental elsewhere in the world such as Austria.

To be eligible for Cost Rental:

  • Your net household income must be lower than €66,000 (Dublin) or €59,000 (outside Dublin)
  • Be already resident in Ireland
  • Show the ability to be able to pay the rent
  • Not be eligible for social housing or on the social housing list
