Cllr Oisín O'Connor

Green Party Councillor for Glencullen-Sandyford, including Ballinteer, Stepaside, Kilternan, Leopardstown, Ballyogan & Glenamuck

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are proposing to take part of Stepaside Park (phase 1) in charge. “Taking in charge” is the process by which the council takes over public areas from the original developer and takes on responsibility for maintenance and upkeep.

It’s usually pre-agreed under the planning permission(s) for an estate which areas will/won’t be taken in charge. You can see the original planning permissions for Stepaside Park here.

For Stepaside Park, this relates to the footpaths, roads, green areas, lighting and water infrastructure. You can see a PDF of the full map here.

As required by law, the council are undertaking a public consultation before legally taking the areas in charge. It remains open until the 23rd July 2025. You can make your views known here. You can also contact the Building Control team who manage the process here: buildingcontrol@dlrcoco.ie.

After the public consultation is complete, the council officials will present a report to a council meeting where councillors give the sign-off to take the estate in charge. This would give the authority for the council to take phase 1 of Stepaside Park in charge.
