Cllr Oisín O'Connor

Green Party Councillor for Glencullen-Sandyford, including Ballinteer, Stepaside, Kilternan, Leopardstown, Ballyogan & Glenamuck

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are proposing to take Willow Glen, Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines, in charge. “Taking in charge” is the process by which the council takes over public areas from the original developer and takes on responsibility for maintenance and upkeep.

It’s usually pre-agreed under the planning permission(s) for an estate which areas will/won’t be taken in charge. You can see the original planning permissions for Willow Glen here.

For Willow Glen, the taking in charge relates to the footpaths, roads, lighting and water infrastructure. You can see a PDF of the full map here. The notice issued by council management is here.

As you can see from the map, the proposal in keeping with the planning permission is that the green areas, parking spaces and some of the walls will remain private.

Willow Glen take in charge Glenamuck Road Carrickmines

As required by law, the council have opened up a public consultation before taking the areas in charge. You can make your views known via the public consultation here. You can also contact the Building Control team who manage the process here: buildingcontrol@dlrcoco.ie.

After the public consultation is complete, the council officials will present a report to a council meeting where councillors give the sign-off to take the estate in charge. This gives the authority for the council to take Willow Glen in charge.
