Cllr Oisín O'Connor

At this week’s Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council meeting, we have approved just over €550,000 in 2025 DLR grants for community groups across the county. It’s great to see so many active groups applying for grants to run community events, offer community supports and make our area better to live in.

Under the dlr Grants Scheme 2025, 524 applications were received and reviewed by the DLR Community team. Following the completion of assessment under the criteria, 364 applications were recommended for award for grant (see all recommendations here). There were 64 successful grant applications from groups in Glencullen-Sandyford, totally €85,883 in grant funding.

In the dlr Grants Scheme 2025 the following grants categories were available:

  • Arts Grants: The Council supports a wide variety of Arts within the County, through the Arts Grants Programme. Artists, art organisations, local art groups and community groups can benefit from available funding.
  • Community Grants: The Council offers a wide variety of community grants that support community and age friendly groups, activities and projects, while also supporting the development of community groups and community development initiatives.
  • Environment Grants: The grant supports Residents’ Associations, Tidy Towns, Tidy Districts and Estate Management Groups to help improve their local public areas.
  • Events Grants: The Council provides grant assistance to a small number of Events/Festivals through the year, through the dlr Events Budget. The dlr Events website and social media channel promotes local events & festivals and improves the quality of life of residents within the county.
  • Business Area Promotion Grants: Administered by the dlr Economic Development Unit, the Business Area Promotion grants provide funding to recognised business groups across the County. Grant aid must be used for co-operative business promotion initiatives.
  • Heritage Grants: The Council offer funding to individuals, groups and societies who are undertaking heritage events, publications, exhibitions, etc. These projects must have a strong public engagement remit and be specifically related to the built, natural or cultural heritage of the County. We have a great Heritage Office in DLR, which also oversees biodiversity initiatives in the county.
  • Sports Development Grants: The Council offer several Sports Access Grants and Sports Development Grants every year that support community-led sports initiatives and local sporting associations. Sports Grants aim to increase access to sporting activities in the community and enrich the lives of the County’s residents. The DLR Local Sports Partnership also does work directly in this area, supporting inclusion and physical activity.
