Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are proposing to take the Bishop’s Gate estate, Kilternan, in charge. “Taking in charge” is the process by which the council takes over public areas from the original developer and takes on responsibility for maintenance and upkeep.
I’ve been following up with the relevant section of the council this year to ensure it’s gotten prioritised.
It’s usually pre-agreed under the planning permission(s) for an estate which areas will/won’t be taken in charge. You can see the original planning permissions for Bishop’s Gate here:
For Bishop’s Gate, this relates to the footpaths, roads, green areas, lighting and water infrastructure. You can see a PDF of the full map here.
As required by law, the council are undertaking a public consultation before legally taking the areas in charge. It remains open until the 11th November 2024. You can make your views known here. You can also contact the Building Control team who manage the process here: [email protected].
After the public consultation is complete, the council officials will present a report to a council meeting where councillors give the sign-off to take the estate in charge. This gives the authority for the council to take Bishop’s Gate in charge.
If there are any issues that you would like to raise me with directly or you would like to be kept informed of updates on the council’s plans to take Bishop’s Gate in charge, you can email me on [email protected] or contact me here.
