Cllr Oisín O'Connor

Green Party Councillor for Glencullen-Sandyford, including Ballinteer, Stepaside, Kilternan, Leopardstown, Ballyogan & Glenamuck

It’s been done in stages, but I’m really happy with the progress on resurfacing the footpaths and cycle tracks on Belarmine Avenue/Village Road in Aiken’s Village. The roadway was resurfaced last year with traffic calming added as this is now a 30kph road.

This was following a motion I passed in 2021, and the resurfacing of the worst sections was done in 2022.

Motion: Councillor O. O’Connor
“That the Chief Executive add Village Road & Belarmine Avenue to the cycleway and
footpath maintenance and upgrade programme for 2022 to include resurfacing the
paths where tree roots are breaking through.”
Report:
Due to the extent of works involved, either Village Road or Belarmine Avenue will
be considered as part of the 2022 Cycleway and Footpath Upgrade Programme.

I want basic maintenance like this to be done more often and with less delay. Unfortunately, our proposal to put more money into road maintenance in 2025 was voted down by other councillors at our November council budget meeting. I will try again!

If you have any big maintenance projects like this that you’d like to have prioritised, drop me an email on [email protected]. For minor maintenance issues, usually the Road Maintenance team will respond quickly if you contact them directly at [email protected]. I’m happy to help with follow up if you don’t get a satisfactory response.
