Cllr Oisín O'Connor

Green Party Councillor for Glencullen-Sandyford, including Ballinteer, Stepaside, Kilternan, Leopardstown, Ballyogan & Glenamuck

The Glenamuck Distributor Road will open today, 19th June. Here’s what’s happening when the road opens.

At 10am Thursday 19th June:

  • Glenamuck Distributor Road from De La Salle to Carrickmines will open to all road users.
  • Glenamuck Road will be a cul de sac for vehicular traffic halfway down, just above Brambledown. Vehicular traffic will be 2-way either side of the closure. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass through the cul de sac.
  • The L26 bus will have a diversion but will serve all existing stops except for the stop on Glenamuck Rd opposite Cromlech Close. There will be a replacement stop on Enniskerry Road.

Here is the full update received from the project team:

Full update all councillors received from the project team on Wednesday 18th:

Following on from last week’s correspondence regarding the opening of GDDR, I can confirm that the site team and contractors have been working tirelessly to ensure the road opens as planned tomorrow. As of this afternoon, the final commissioning of the public lighting and traffic signals is underway.

Subject to the successful completion of these final checks, we intend to begin removing the Traffic Management Plans at Carrickmines Roundabout and De La Salle Palmerston FC junction shortly after 10am tomorrow, following the morning rush hour. Our intention is to have the GDDR fully open to traffic by lunchtime.

It is worth noting that this will be a staged road open, and the formal ribbon cutting ceremony will take place once the scheme is fully completed. While every effort will be made to ensure a smooth opening, some initial teething issues may arise. Due to the high volume of traffic expected from both GDDR and Stepaside direction converging at the new T-junction near DLSP FC towards Golden Ball, some delays are likely – particularly during the peak hours. This delay will only be addressed until the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road (GLDR) is fully open. We will request assistance from ITS team to monitor the traffic flow and adjust the signal timings as needed.

Following the GDDR opening, a road closure will be implemented on Glenamuck Road. A Traffic Management Plan will in place to support both the road opening and associated road closure. A turning area has been provided on Glenamuck Road for the L26 bus to ensure that bus services will not be disrupted. Please find attached the agreed bus diversion route for L26.

On behalf of Capital Projects Office, we would like to sincerely thank everyone for their continued patience and support throughout the delivery of this major infrastructure project to date. We look forward to the road opening tomorrow.
