I received a recent update from the Parks Department on Jamestown Park, which is the park that will be developed on the former site of the Ballyogan Landfill in Dublin 18 (here), next to Clay Farm and Ballyogan. This park is planned to serve the wider area and will be a great amenity once the project is complete.
In the update, the Parks Department have told me that Phase 1 of the Jamestown Park project is expected to begin in 2024/2025, which will include a shared surface route (for people walking or cycling) linking the Cruagh Greenway to The Park Carrickmines and Samuel Beckett Civic Campus to Enniskerry Road. Associated works will include tree planting, seating, and incidental play items.
Due to its former use, the Environmental Protection Agency need to sign off that the land is safe for community use which they assess with various testing. They are taking a cautious approach to make sure that there are no ill effects for anyone working on or using the park once opened.
The funds to develop Jamestown Park are coming from the developer contributions levied on all new residential and commercial development, that is earmarked for community infrastructure. There are also some funds expected to come from the NTA as the linear park paths will be a key transport corridor for people walking and cycling.
I have also been making enquiries about opening up the greenway that runs through Clay Farm, at the entrance to Elmfield but the lands here are privately owned by different 3rd parties. Upon my request, the council are making efforts to resolve these issues so that public access can be opened up and eventually people will have a 2km continuous greenway between Kilgobbin Road and The Park Carrickmines.
