Would you like to get involved with planting 500 native trees with the council and Belarmine Residents Association? Thanks to increased funds we have provided for tree planting in the council budget, the Community Woodland initiative has been growing in recent years.
DLR Parks dept are planting a small community woodland in the open space at Belarmine Ave/Enniskerry Road on Saturday 20th April from 10.30am and will plant until completion (approx. 1 pm). We have approx 500 small native trees to plant. If lots of volunteers turn up it will just take the morning. We have some tools and gloves but please do bring your own if you have some.
Hopefully the weather will warm up but wear sturdy shoes and wrap up warm. Bring neighbours and family for a fun morning out. Please note: There is no parking at this location. Please walk or cycle on the day. Thank you in advance.

The trees will be very young, densely planted and comprised of species such as Oak, Birch, Alder, Hawthorn, Hazel, providing habitat for birds and pollinators, and enriching the natural environment.
I had previously requested that the council put in a pollinator area at this location but I’m delighted that a trees planting is now being proposed here in Belarmine. Apart from a couple of weeks a year, the ground here never dries out enough for it to be used as a play area so it’s good that it’s proposed to be used for increasing biodiversity in our area.

Before we go ahead, the Parks team would like your input so are running a short consultation for 2 weeks. Email [email protected] before 12 noon on the 13th March 2023 if you have views on this Community Woodland proposal.
